Blog #6 " Enterpreting Jim..."
In my personal opinion I think Jim is just a normal human being that is an African American that escape from slavery and is trying to reach or have his freedom. I personally think that the way he speaks is just his normal and regular way of expression. According to some research I did for the minstrel show, it is define as a comic variety show, usually fetures white actors in black faces. Which I dont really think he is an example of a minstrel because he doesn't do any of those shows as in a musical thing. Although i do think he is contrubuting to a double conciousness reaction sometimes. I say this becuase the way he sometimes is with Huck and for his thoughts.

I agree with you. I dont think he is a minstrel either i think that he is just misunderstood in so many ways. His personality is understandable due to the situations he has been put through.
ReplyDeleteI have a similar thought of what you have about him being the one that is contributing to double consciousness for Huck. I'm not for sure he is a minstrel chacter yet though either.
